Skystone (2019 -2020)This was our robot for the 2019 - 2020 season Skystone. This robot included a design we had been planning on incorporating for the last 3 seasons: the vertical arm. Being able to include not only this long-awaited component along with the borrowed Mechanum wheels was a great improvement from the designs of previous seasons. The arm allowed us to complete the stacking aspects of the game with more ease (we could stack 2 blocks high). The Mechanum wheels allowed for strafing, more traction, and faster driving, which made this transport-heavy season game more manageable. Though it can not be seen from this photo, we switched the driving method from "Tank Mode" (where one joystick controls forward/backward motion and the other controls turning motion) to "POV" mode (where one joystick controls driving motion in all directions and the other controls rotational turning). This robot was optimized to the challenge, considering what we had, but we did not place very well. However, we did get the Control Award and are very proud of the design.

Rover Ruckus (2018 - 2019)This was the robot we used for the 2018 - 2019 Rover Ruckus season, which included a basic rectangular hollow chasse, a lever-like arm, and dual-fingered hand. We also use the basic Tetrix wheels, battery, and single Hub system. We kept all of the original pieces from the previous season, but needed to replace some damaged components (e.g. bent axels and overheated motors) with some of the extras from the original kit. This robot was not optimal for this season's challenge, but worked well enough for the few challenges we tried to tackle (i.e. driving and parking).

Relic Recovery (2017 - 2018)This is our 2017 - 2018 robot for the Relic Recovery season. We included a basic hallow rectangular chasse and a lever arm based off of a template for a basic Tetrix robot we found online. We used a basic Tetrix battery and a single Hub system with our only original piece being a 3D-printed battery case to hold it steady and prevent damage. This robot worked very well for our rookie team and allowed us to score well enough to be in the middle of the pack for our first season.
If memory serves, then we actually did keep all of the birds on the robot for the competitions, but had to remove the tail feathers because it is against regulation to have any animal-based components on the robot. Though we know that the feathers on these birds were likely synthetic, we didn't want more complications during inspection. |
